As a matter of fact, a couple of friends of mine are having the same showdown next weekend at Pismo. My guess right now is that with equally skilled riders and comperable takeoffs the CR will spank the Banshee, unless the weight difference between the riders is over 200 lbs in favor of the Banshee. As far as modified's go, if you had unlimited budgets for both bikes the Banshee should win since there is enough potential in the twin to overcome the drag & weight disadvantages of a quad vs two wheeler. I'll let you know how our "battle of the bullets" comes out.

I have raced 250 dirt bikes and beat them and I own a Mod Banshee. A mod Banshee will walk away from A 250 Dirt bike.
I beat them about 7-8 Bike lengths.

The riders you spanked on 250's must suck. I have a YZ250 and can outrun any quad in a drag race. They eget me off the line, but by third gear I pass them. The mod Banshee is very fast, don't get me wrong, but they weigh twice as much as my bike and put out the same power. If the bike is modified, which mine is, then there is no way a quad can out run them. My buddies have DS650's and Raptor's, both modified, can outrun my 125, but cannot outrun our 250's or our buddies XR400 with a Pipe.

Yup. The 250 should eat any stock and even heavily modified 350 banshee. Perhaps some strokers, or nitrous Banshees would walk away from a new 250.

Did it yesterday. A very modified Banshee (Single Carb, Ported, Polished, Shaved Head, FMF Golds) of a friends does about 100 mph. (Measured beside a car. So give or take a few MPH.) This thing rocks. I haven't dragged it yet with the raptor, but my first feeling is that I will lose.

But yesterday I had my YZ 426 out for the first time this year. I was also out with a modified '88 CR250. We were dragging across a yet to be plowed field, about 200 yards. I beat both machines every time. I think the CR250 should have passed me but his tire is a little burnt from last year. The banshee was with me until 3rd gear, and then it was over.

Lesson here: 45-50 HP with 250lb machine will beat a 45-50 HP 400lb machine. Common sense. But if you had a 60-75HP Banshee, then there would be a contest (If you could see them in the dust, mud, sand, etc...)

But in all expectations, a proper 250 dirt bike should be all over a modified quad in a drag race.

You must be talking about 250 four strokers.
No way a Banshee can keep up with a CR250, a RM250 or a KX250. Just take a look at european bajas, where both machines race together. The 250's and 125's are candidates to overall win which a banshee (or any other quad) will hardly ever be. We're talking about 50hp with less weight and better traction than any quad.
You should try a 250 and see for yourself what those bikes are capable of.

RM,
That was a very good post and a true one at that. I have ridden a RM 250 about 10 years ago. They ROCK with 200 lbs. less weight that I have.

id have to say the cr250 would win if they are both stock, but like a put some mods on dat there banshee and it would haul *** past that dirt bike.
