Default Kodiak Oil Drain Plug Not Tight Enough?

Hey all --

We got a 2005 Kodiak 450 4x4 a couple weeks ago and this past weekend I changed all of the fluids: oil, coolant, and front/rear diff. I noticed that there was a drop of oil hanging off the oil drain nut. I tightened it to the proper spec as per the service manual - can't remember how many pounds it was off hand. I wiped the drop off and it doesn't seem to be happening again but I'm sort of paranoid about it now.

Is it possible that it just needs to be a little bit more snug so I won't have to worry about it going forward?

Thanks,

-Alli

Just check it again after standing for a day or two. If it hasn't leaked again it will be OK. When you drain oil it runs down the sump a bit and when you put the plug back this oil can collect on the plug which is now the lowest point.

Yeah it doesn't seem to be leaking any more. I guess that oil was from around the rim of the bolt head and also like you said. I thought that I'd wiped it pretty clean when I reinstalled it so it surprised me when I saw it. Thanks for the post - it was helpful in knowing that it's sort of expected and that its ok now.
