Default 2005 Ymaha Kodiak 450

Hi
I have a 2005 Kodiak 450, The shift leaver will not move, when the rear break leaver or foot leaver is activated the rear light comes on, the shifter will move left to right but will not move into gear, there is no play to the linkage and it is not bend. I was able to put it in gear but after forcing the leaver and then it was not easy to shift as the shifter was hard to move...any ideas will be greatly appreciated..

I may be thinking of older models but there is a strange cable operated mechanism that works when you put the brakes on, this cable pulls a lockout back from the gear lever quadrant and allows the gear lever to move forwards and back. If the brakes are not on far enough the cable won't pull the lockout back enough. Forcing things bends the mechanism and you are in trouble. Remove straighten and adjust the mechanism so it pops away from the gear lever when the brakes are applied.

unknown to me but the shift lever box has a drain plug a the bottom which is not that visible, also I found it odd that water can get in a sealed box. Long story short water had got into the shift lever box and froze, I placed a heater on it and problem solved, thank you for your input though it was greatly appreciated.
