If you take the air lid off what do you do with the vent hose that hooks to the lid?

I bought a length of hose about a foot long and installed a pcv fitting to connect the old hose to the new,at the end of the new hose I taped a piece of old t-shirt materal over the end of the hose to keep any dirt from bieng sucked into the crankcase,I then stuffed the end of the hose into my airbox beside the air filter.Works great and still allows the engine to pull the vacuum that it needs.

How bad is it to just let that hose sit where it is without doing anything if you dont ride in a real dusty area?

It probably wont hurt anything, but look at it this way, for less than $5 you can insure that the engine wont pull any unwanted debris into the engine. That hose is a direct route to your engine oil, crancase, tranny, ect. Besides, the engine needs a little vacuum to operate properly.

I checked that hose with the engine running and i noticed that the air is being pushed out rather that sucked in. Does it change once it's connected?

Depending on where the crank is while the engine is rotating determines whether the engine is pulling of pushing vacuum, it is pulling and pushing back and forth, and it can suck debris into the crankcase.

I went to the auto parts store and found a PVC plastic filter that fit the tube. I put a little tape over the end so the filter material would not fall out, and then zip tied it to the other hoses in front of the filter box,.. open end down.
