Default Leaking battery

Found my brand new battery leaking all over,

1) Why is it leaking?
2) Did the acid hurt my 4 wheeler?

Could be cracked, would be the first thing I'd look at. Did you get to ride with it or did it leak right after you installed it?

Yes, depending on what all that acid gets on, it can be very bad.

Either you turned it on it's side, the case is cracked, someone overfilled it with acid, or you have boiled it. If it is neither of the first two, check if the voltage regulator has packed in by putting a voltmeter across the battery with the engine running, If you get over 15v with the engine revving, you need a new regulator. Acid corrodes metal parts such as steel and copper.
