DS vs. Raptor
#13
No, contest in a Drag Race?.
Must be a CA Raptor 'cause a 49st model will beat a DS in a Drag, not by a lot but it can do it, but to be fair smaller less expirenced riders will do better in Drags on a DS as it is easier to keep the front end down.
Most who speak of the Sand Drag use DW as evidence, well a picture in that same shootout showed the Raptor winning a uphill
Drag Race and a sidenote saying that the Raptor consistiantly won the uphill drag, uphill will rob as much if not more that sand can.
It is best to look at it this way;
The DS was designed to be and apparently is the
King of the Dune/Desert.
The 400EX was built to rule in the Woods/Trail areas, for most it dose.
The Raptor is made for those who cannot afford both a DS & a EX, as it has Open Class power, the 49st version dose, 400 class handiling, other than a propensity toward tipping(most cases a little more body english and different suspension settings cures that) it accomplishes that.

I usually drag race one of my best friends on his Raptor. We do it just for fun, as we both think that DRAG RACING DOESN'T MEAN MUCH. Anyway, the results depend on the kind of terrain we are riding since the stock tires we both had until very recently are very different. We now have holeshots but haven't drag raced yet.
Still, the DS has a bit more power and on pavement it wins by a considerable margin on every kind of drag race you pick: short, long, decaf, nonfat...
Let me just finish by saying that we both love each other’s quads and that we laugh all the time.
If I could have a second quad it would be a Raptor.

Well 3tv, thank you for clarifing what kind of Raptor he posesses.
But I will still say even taking your observations into consideration.
The Raptor dose best the DS in a Drag Race, although not by much.
I never said the Raptor would beat a DS in a Desert race.
Did I not say "The DS is designed to be a Dune/Desert King, and appears to be so.
Re-read what I WROTE.
The DS is no faster on top-end either.
I came to this conclusion, using a old Rail-Road
grade (groomed and converted to a multi-use corridor), two persons with cell phones and Stopwatches, and a smaller rider whom owns a 400EX, he had no stake in the results.
We found a 3 mile run and timed the runs over the last 100yds, 3 runs one way both Quads then 3 runs the other.
Conclusion; both about 74 M.P.H., .3-.4 M.P.H. projected margin of error.
Neither I nor the DS owner activly particapated.
I will not use the word "creamed" in our Woods race (tight woods, hilly, some open areas).
But I did win.
the DS rider was/is smaller than I.
Looks Like
My choice
was
Wise
as
Well.
Both quads used in this comparison are 49 state and stock.
Great day
