I like sythetic oil myself. even though it's supposed to last twice as long as petro based oils i still change it two or more times a year.
I am sure that the temp range is definately better than regular oil. and i know that i have a 88 chevy truck with over 260,000 on it and it has had syntec in it since about 40,000 miles. My Grizz definately seems to run cooler with synthetic. Due to the decrease in friction that comes with synthetics. i ran mobile 1 v-twin for a while and changed over to syntec since then. but compared to petro oils it is a lot cleaner when i change it than with yamalube. The factory tries to give a good oil that will work adequately in as wide a range as possible and at a good price. I have seen how thick oils gets when its very cold and have used synthetic in very cold weather and it is definately much easier to pore in cold weather. the high end temp. where sythetics break down is about 150 degrees higher on synthetics than petro based. I am convinced that sythetic is better that regular oils. You just need to make sure that you get synthetic non friction modified oil for use on wet clutches. Just my $0.02 worth.
