Doubtful if anyone on here has done it. Assuming they have the same gearbox, I would think they will be. Check the wires coming out of the stator, Yamaha had some very strange ideas about ignition (two pickup coils on some). However the only way you will know for certain is to try it.

I went to the dealer to check compatibility and 97-98s are the same
