Angry Grizzly problems

I was riding my fully auto 03 660 today when all of a sudden it just stops pulling right in its tracks. Engine still running perfectly but will not pull itself forward or reverse. What's the most probable first thing to check? Thanks

Belt or clutch, probably belt. Remove belt cover and check it out. If belt is shredded or in poor condition just check the clutches before installing a new belt and also clean everything thoroughly before reassembly.

Yeah definitely make sure there aren't pieces of the belt in the clutches. A friend of mine had a belt break on his Rzr and put a new belt on and chewed it up almost immediately because there was still a piece of the old belt in the clutch. He was actually relieved to find that was the problem, at the time he thought the whole clutch needed replaced.

I checked the belt and it was disintegrated. Replaced the belt but it still does not pull in forward or reverse. It barely moves even when your giving it gas.... I cleaned all the old belt pieces out of the primary clutch housing and the secondary. HELP

Either you haven't got all the broken bits out, or you assembled the front pulley wrongly. Rollers must be kept in place as you slide the assembly back on the shaft, and the outer splines have to be engaged on the shaft before you tighten the central nut or bolt holding the assembly on.

What do you mean outer splines have to be engaged?

If the 660's CVT is like the 700's, you do not need to remove the Primary to change a belt. However, many might remove the primary in the process.

So, as merryman is indicating, the Cam plate on the Primary must remain in a "closed" position when reinstalling otherwise the rollers get out of place and will end up staying out of place until the issue is resolved. Per the mention of the splines, if the Primary shaft splines aren't peaking out just beyond the Primary when installed, the Primary will not have been seated correctly before installing the Primary nut. This can cause damage.

If your Primary and Secondary sheaves have never been serviced, you should probably remove them, clean up old grease and then regrease. Will this make your Grizzly not move forward? Doubtful. Did you buy a Yamaha belt or aftermarket? Again, OEM or aftermarket shouldn't cause your Grizzly to not move forward but it is widely accepted within Grizzly circles that the OEM belt is far superior to all others, stick with OEM.

This is only a stab in the dark, but with the belt in place and your Grizzly not moving, I'd be suspecting the wet clutch pack.

Default 2003 Grizzly 660 problems

Thanks all! I will double check all you have mentioned. RedRocket24, that was my next question. Wasn't sure if the primary was supposed to be full of grease or not.... sorry don't have any manuals on this bike, bought it used and abused... How do I and what do I look for on the wet clutch to know if it's failed?
