i have been looking into the kodiac, and have read that you have to have the rear foot brake depressed while shiftin into reverse and park? is this true? is there an override system?? and how do you guys like yours??

is there an override for the foot brake, at least where you have to pull in the hand brake instead. i have rode with a grizzly in freezin water, and needed to use reverse, and well the water was well over the floorboard. i think u get the point

No, there is NO over ride. Even if you turn the engine completely off, you will still need to use the foot brake.
I personally think the Kodiak is a damn good machine. I abuse the heck out of my quad and she keeps on running. One definitely needs to put on some more aggressive tires if you're going to do any mudding. My major complaint with the quad is the rear brake pads. I never use the rear brakes and those pads keep going out on me. But other than that, the Kodiak has held up quite well for me.
Check out the pics on the link below. Those pictures are baby stuff abuse. I have put the quad through a lot worse, just don't have any pics of that yet. Yesterday I sunk it in the creek and the only thing one could see was my rear tires. Too bad I didn't get a picture of that. But my camera was in my storage box, which was under several feet of water at the time. hahaha.
Anyway, if you want a quad that is pretty versatile, then go with the Kodiak. If you want a quad that is more specialized, such as mudding, jumping or whatever. Then look into something else. If I had it to do over again and wanted a "versatile" quad, I would go with the Kodiak again.

The left hand brake will work too. This is what I use when I dont want to get my feet wet lol. I believe you can override it by messing with the springs on the right side of the Kodiak. Take the right side tire off, take the brake cover off, look at the springs and cables to see how they work. You can probably get it to work without pressing a pedal. I hve looked at it and thought about it but always have other things going on at the time. Later all.

Don't let the fact that you can't shift without having the rear bake pulled affect your decision. Like they said, you can shift with the left hand lever pulled as well. If you can, go ride a Kodiak-it will sell itself! The steering and engine braking are great. In/out 4wd, rated to tow over 1000lbs! Mine has about 600-700mi and no complaints except the rear brake pads.

I have the Kodiak and I love it. It is no big deal squeezing the brake lever or pushing in the pedal. My question is that if you have the Rubicon and the Prarie 650 why would you want another utility bike? Or are you just one of those web dreamers?

It would be imposible to discribe it and you be able to understand if you didnt have a Kodiak to look at. But in a nut shell, pull the right tire off, take off the brake shield, you will see the levers there. When you pull the left brake or push the foot brake both will pull another cable that is connected to the shifter box. That is the cable you need to make active at all times. If this cable is held in a downward postition then it will think the brakes are on and will let you shift in and out of PARK and REVESE without the brakes on. I believe it can be done but havent had the time to mess with it lately.
The Kodiak is a great ATV. I love mine and want another. Later, hope this helps.
