I am attempting to adjust the valves myself . The problem I am having is that when the camshaft sprocket is aligned with the head, the ''T''or TDC mark is not aligned with the crankcase index mark.
If I turn the crankshift a 1/4'' counter-clockwise then the ''T'' lines up and the camshaft sprocket is out of alignment with the head. I have already set the valves with just the camshaft sprocket aligned with the head. And the motor sounds normal. Though according to the repair manual all three marks should be aligned when adjusting the valves. Do all of these marks need to be aligned or is this normal?

you need to pull off the cam sprocket and get it lined up, then adjust the valves at top dead center. hope this helps
