Does anyone know the socket size and torque value for the c/s sprocket nut on the raptor? Thanx.

I don't know the torque value (I tightened mine with a two foot breaker bar :^) ), but the socket is a 1 and 1/4 inch (the book says 32mm, but the 1 and 1/4 fits better). It also has the sheet metal locking tab that you bend over the nut, so it shouldn't accidently loosen...
What a difference, this is how it should have been geared from thje factory!

Good luck,
Lorrin

Did you get the 12 tooth? I just got mine. I ordered mine at the end of November from Rocky mountain. Jeeze, 5 months. Can't wait to get it back out on trails! Hopefully it will still be lower than facory, even with 22s. Thanx for info!

It won't be lower than stock with a 12 tooth and 22 inch tires, unless your tires are not actually 22 inches tall (a lot of brands don't actually match their listed size). I did the math a while back, and 22 inch (actual height) tires raise your gearing by 10 percent, the 12 tooth sprocket lowers back down by 8 percent. This means that you end up with slightly HIGHER (bad) gearing than stock. I've talked with someone on the forum here that then went with a 44 tooth rear sprocket, which puts your gearing down to exactly what you want (when you also have the 12 tooth front sprocket).
To explain better:
add 22 inch tires=10 percent higher gearing (yuck)
add 44 tooth rear sprocket=10 percent lower gearing (now back to stock gearing)
add 12 tooth front sprocket=8 percent lower (now just like putting the 12 tooth on with no other change)
The 12 tooth sprocket makes a BIG difference, it's like one whole gear lower, second is now like first used to be, etc.

Good luck,
Lorrin

yup i will have to agree. the 12 tooth should be the stock size. just got back from a 30 mile dice run and i would have had a terrible day if i had the 13 tooth sprocket. the 12 makes it drive like a dream in the woods and steep hill climbs. i ordered my 12 tooth sprocket from denniskirk and i paid the money for 2 day shipped so i would have it before the dice run. the sprocket is an oem yamaha and it was only 9.95. i went and bought the 1 1/4" socket cause my set only went up to 1 1/8" that was after trying to ask some idiots in the chat room and they just slammed me and told me to take it to the dealer. i finally determined that it is a 32mm/1 1/4" make sure you tightend that chain up after you do it

Thanx guys, I appreciate the information. The whole reason I went with the 22" holeshot xtc tires, was to gain some ground clearance. I'm afraid that by going to a 44 tooth rear, I'll have to add spacers between the carrier and the skid plate, reducing my clearance. I'll take it out and see how it is with just the 12 tooth, but from what your saying, I'm not going to be satisfied with the results. But who knows, maybe after riding with the 22s and stock gearing for 3 months, I'll feel the 12t c/s is enough . I'll let you know how it goes.
