Default 2005 Bruin 350 Carb Replacement.

Hi All,
we picked up the above quad and she had a stumble at high rpms. Not terrible but there. PO said he messed with the carb and we verified it’s not oem.

Id like to get back to a baseline with an unmolested carb. Do you all recommend the OEM ($240) or a $50 aftermarket replacement. Or even an upgrade?

Open to your thoughts or if any vendors have products.

Thanks
PSU

I was in the same scenario pretty much when I got ahold of my 2004 Bruin. Previous owner messed with it, it's wasn't an original Makuni carb. It wouldn't rev past about 1/2 throttle. I took a shot in the dark and ordered a $25 carb off Amazon, threw it on, and it's been working great ever since. If it ever gives me issues, I'll attempt to clean the carb, but if all else fails, I'll put another cheapo on it. I don't see the use in spending stupid amounts of money for an OEM carb when a cheap knockoff works just as good. Granted this is just a casual trail rider utility quad; were it a race quad and I was looking for more power, that might be a different story...

Problem is a new $25 carb may be as much "out" as the one you have. If the old carb is nothing like the factory original, then go for a Chinese cheapo, but if it already has a "knock off" fitted, altering the CD needle if possible, or a different main jet, may work better than just buying another new Chinese carb. Plug nose colour should show if it is now rich or weak, so telling you which way to go with needle or jetting.

Thanks all.

I’m going to give this a shot.

It’s so much cheaper than an oem one that it’s worth the shot. The markings on the one in there says PD33J.

Our plug look normal to a little lean and with it sputtering are the top end I’m thinking the existing carbs main jet may bee too small.

How universal are the jets? New carb cane in with a 120 main jet but oem is 128.8. Would like to find a 125 to swap in to get closer to the oem side if things but not sure what kind fit. Any experiences on the differences? Still have the top end sputter with the new carb

Why not fit the correct main jet, $5 from Yamaha dealers? Hopefully the outside dia etc, will be the same.

If the oem jets would fit I would definitely get them, was wondering how universal things were.

We looked at the air/fuel mixture screw last night and it only took 1/2 turn to bottom out so if that’s a legitimately adjustable part on the aftermarket carb we are going to turn it 2.5 turns out and put it back on to see if that makes a difference.
