I'm looking to see if anyone has any leads on a rear axle for a 1986 Yamaha Moto 4 225 rear axle. It's 2WD and unfortunately the axle is snapped at the threads. 2HT-25381-02-00 is the part number and unfortunately I'm not having luck finding it. I ordered one from Amazon and it's not even close. Even if I can find a used one I'd buy it.
By "snapped at the threads" do you mean the ones at the ends shown in the circle pics above? If so, get a machine shop to drill and tap the axle and fit a stud.
Here in the UK, there are firms who make rear axles for Yams from billet on CNC machines. So, provided they have the program for that axle, they turn them out to order. Our local Yam dealer gave us the name. I would guess there will be similar companies wherever you are, and a local Yam dealer is most likely to know who they are.
The axle is snapped right at the threads that hold the tire and hub assembly onto the axle. I called the Yamaha Dealer and they didn't have any leads to anyone in the area that could make the axle.
I may go that route. I was lucky enough to find someone about an hour away that hard a parts machine that sold me the axle for $80. I'll save the other for a spare
New used axle is in. Unfortunately the person before me that tried to repair the axle fubarred the wheel collar to the point that there are no splines left on it and can't grip the new Axle. Are there any other yamaha machines that utilize the same wheel collar/hub as the Moto 4?
Did you check with the person who sold you the axle, if they have the hubs? As it is a no longer available part, my guess is it wouldn't be used with many other machines, however a tiny difference between two models results in a new part number, so say, a slightly different length of spline, may have been used until recently. Again the mechanics in Yam dealerships are the most likely to know what will fit.
