Replaced Timing Chain Complications - Engine Noise YFM350 Warrior
#1
I just replaced the timing chain on my 350 warrior due to the loud slapping noise I was hearing. Chain was defiantly worn. I put the new one in and it runs great, however I am now hearing a clicking or snapping noise coming from the area around the fly wheel cover. I am fairly certain it is not the valve train as it is coming from the bottom not the top of the motor and the noise seems to coincide with rotation of the flywheel not the cam. The noise is defiantly new and not there before I installed the timing chain because it is louder then the previous chain noise. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? or what to look for?

Not familiar with the Warrior. Does it have an automatic chain adjuster, if it has a manual adjuster, have you set it properly?
I once managed to fit the non movable plastic chain guide out of the lower bracket which is supposed to hold it, on a Bruin, surprisingly I never noticed (no excessive noise) until I rebuilt the engine again.
On most of those 350 Yam engines there are 5 wrong ways you can time the harmonic balancer and still get the timing marks to line up, are you sure you got it right.

I was unaware of that and I’m not sure how that would be he case. But in any case what would the proper procedure be? Shouldn’t as long as the “t” timing mark is visible on the flywheel and the cam at tdc the motor would be timed correctly?

Sorry, the Warrior is different, just checked and the balancer gear seems to be on the clutch side of engine on manual gearbox 350s so won't need to come off to fit a chain. Can't think of anything else except a loose flywheel.
