Default 2000 Kodiak One way starter bearing

My quad was working normal and then I went to start it and it wouldn't start. The starter motor spins and works as I have tested it and actually bought a new one. After researching it seems like it could be the one way starter bearing. Has anybody else had this issue? Other than this part do I need to replace anything else while I am in there? From what I found researching I should buy the part through Yamaha as the aftermarket fail quite quickly. Just trying to get some advice before I tear into it. Thanks

"I went to start it and it wouldn't start"

This tells us nothing, did the starter spin but the engine not turn? If so then it is probably the one way clutch, take the cover off and you will see the starter gear on the flywheel whizzing round when you press the starter, but the flywheel not turning if it is the one way clutch.

However, if nothing happens when you press the start button, you have an electrical problem.

Yes the starter gear definitely turns. I am 99% sure it is the one way bearing. Dies the idler gear need to be replaced as well normally?

No, but check the teeth on the gears and starter for wear and damage when you have it stripped down. I have also known excessive wear on the idler gear bush, though not on a Yamaha.
