Early 2000s, Yamaha were changing brake systems with every model, and I can't remember just how the 2004 Kodiak went. However I find Quad systems are extremely hard to bleed, unless you close the pipe leading from master cylinder when bleeding. You shouldn't do it as it can degrade the pipe, but clamping the flex pipe closed, with vice grips, on the upward travel of each pedal pump, usually works when conventional methods of bleeding don't.
