Question About Self-Sagging Shocks

I think I understand how self-sagging shocks help when jumping because you gain shock travel when the suspension is fully extended, and when cornering you are sitting lower and wider.

But aren't you loosing shock travel when you hit bumps, rocks, ruts, and holes in the trail?
