Default Yamaha Kodiac 450 Tire Explosion

Just purchased a 2023 Kodiac and at 12km, driving on relatively smooth road, the tire exploded breaking a part off the ATV. Any ideas on what went wrong or other cases of this? The dealer came and picked it up but we are waiting on a response from Yamaha now. Any thoughts guys? Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Would have to wonder what they had in them as far as tire pressure goes. If the dealer has it, that may be something they will check on the other tires. Didn't think they had enough pressure in them to actually blow like that.

Thanks for the fast reply. I know it may be a long shot, but can you tell from this photo if they look very overinflated? I'm down here in Colombia and wonder if the Yamaha dealer had misinterpreted what the PSI needs to be. ATV's are new to me, so I just went with how they gave it to me. Looking at the photo now after you mentioned the tire pressure makes me wonder if these look weird.

Can't really say by just looking. I think I kept mine around 8psi, which may be on the higher side. If we were riding where there were a lot of rocks, lower than that.

Could also be where the bike has been sat. It may have stood in the sun for months prior to sale, which wouldn't do the tyre much good, or it could be a faulty tyre, such things do occur. We had a Gator in for a new tyre last week, the one we took off had two long splits at the base of the tread as if it had been cut, one could have been caused by running over a sharp piece of metal, but two? The tyre wasn't worn, so I assume some manufacturing fault must have been the cause.
