Is this a good Idea, will it damage or hurt my quad? My friend has a 400ex, I have a raptor,
He took out the baffle on his stock pipe.
He recomends I do the same.

Will this hurt my raptor? Will I gain any HP from this mod? If this mod is done should the raptor need rejetted? Any help would be appreciated.
Raptor is going on a month and havn't done anything yet.

I do know it's loud, I live in an area that i don't hafta worry about sound ordinances.

Is there a danger of backfire damage to the engine.

yes you can take the spark arrester out , it wont hurt at all , it gives the bike more "spark" (excuse the pun) , it will feel stronger , you dont need to rejet.

It will however be quite a bit louder but louder is more HP.

Go for it .

If you really want it to boogie put a slipon muffler on ...then hang on ....... you will notice a huge difference in the power .

regards

Be careful about removing the spark arrestor, they are required on most public lands. I got a pretty expensive surprise last year when the ranger checked my FMF muffler on my dirt bike. I had thought it was the spark arrestor model, but found out that it wasn't at the same time the ranger did.
Good luck,
Lorrin

Thanks for the response. I took the baffle out and went for a ride in the dunes. Definitly loud!

It gave alot more low end/ mid range power,
but I lost on the top end.

I'm also getting a hesitation. I thought it would have been caused by lack of air into engine. So I modified the box for more airflow (per atv mag)
It did help a bit in power, but now it hesitates even more on the low end.
I think i'll take the advice and get a pipe.
and rejet.. just don't have the money yet.
