Banshee Questions
#1
Ok, its me again, bryan...i have some questions. I hope you all can answer...
First of all, how often do you need to rejet? I hear about this and never know how often it needs done. And also how is it done? And is it something i can do myself? On a Banshee.
Second..Are 2 strokes that un-reliable? Do they really need to be rebuilt 2 times a year? What goes into "rebuilding" as its called. Does it cost a lot? And also is it something i can do myself as well?
And i appreciate everyone's help...thats all the questions for now...im sure to have more as i am new to this sport. But soon to be ripping up some tracks around here. Thanks again

no, jetting is only done when you add or subtract an engine part. but not every engine add-on needs jetting. pipes for example need jetting to be done. boost bottle, reeds, do not need any jetting changes.
jetting is down by adjusting the settings on the carbs, and putting in a smaller or larger main jet, for a simple definition. there are certain changes that can be done to affect only a certain rpm, such as 1/4 throttle to 1/2. ect.
dont worry about re jetting until you add something like pipes, one of the first engine mods any one does to their banshee.
also, about rebuilding the motor. depends on how you take care of it. top ends can go for a long time, if you take care of them by putting in good premix oil at a good ratio and making sure the air filter and such is clean and sealing. if you dont take care of it 1 ride out can mean a lot of trouble.
the bottom end goes for a long time. just make sure you put the right oil in there. and shift ok, by using proper technique and adjusting the clutch when needed.
also remember to check the radiator level. mix 50% antifreez, 50% water.
no 2strokes are not uneliable. they just need a little more responsibility and care. if you do not ever work on yours or do anything it needs, you will have a highly unreliable quad. if you take care of it when needed and put in all the right oils and liquids, you will have a great running quad that will last.
maybe you should have started out on something like a blaster, if you are new to the sport.
a banshee is one of the fastest quads. i hope you are carefull and know what you are doing, if you dont you can get hurt very bad. good luck with it also.

H300F pretty much summed it up. Also, you may need to rejet if you change altitude a lot, say from sea level to 4000 feet would require jetting. Jetting is simply controlling the air ful mixture. Altitude changes or modifications will require that you change the jets (which allow fuel into the engine) to a different size to maintain the proper air/fuel ratio. It's easy to do but a pain in the butt on the Banshee.
2strokes are actually very reliable due to very few moving parts as compared to a 4 stroke. The thing is that they are not very tolerant of poor maintenance practices. I can't stress enough how important proper jetting, proper air filtration and quality 2 stroke oil at a reasonable 32:1 (depending on oil) ratio is to maintaining the life of your engine.
Don't worrry about rebuilding. With care it is a once every sevaral (3,4,5,??) year event. How much or how difficult I cannot say; not there yet.
Be careful when you do get your Banshee... They are NOT for beginners but a beginner can be successfull on one with patience.
