I just bought an 11:1 compression piston from Four Stroke Tech for my Warrior and now I think while i have it apart I may do a cam. I can get a WebCam for $89 and heavier valve springs for $55. Or I can get the cam from FST for $130 and their valve springs for $95. I know Mickey Dunlap of four stroke tech is an excellent motor builder and really knows his stuff, but I have also heard positive things about WebCam. I anyone has or has heard about either of these cams or have any other suggestions as to a cam i should buy I would appreciate your help!

Since I didn't see anyone replying, I thought I'd try to help. The first thing to consider is, are you going to have the head ported? If so, go with the cam from the builder. Why? The builder will port your head accordingly to the specifications of the cam, allowing you to get the most performance out of the high comp piston and higher lift cam.

If your not having the head ported, I would suggest you call both Web and FST and find out the differences between the two cams. Ask them what the valve lift is for intake and exhaust, ask what the lobe center is and what the duration is. This will allow you to determine if they are the same cams and if not, you can then determine which cam best fits your needs, ex] bottom-mid cam or mid-top cam.

Many companies use the web cam with no changes and costs more. Do the research and you will be better educated with your purchase.

Mickey Dunlap at FST will not tell me the specs on his cams. He said people compare his cams to others and he said it's like comparing apples to oranges. He told me he recommends cams for where the person wants power and according to their tire size and other engine mods. He seems very knowledgable and I'm sure he does very good work.

 

Sorry, but I don't have any real good suggestions for you other than I think it's BS that FST would't give you that info, as if he is doing some top secret grind on his warrior cam! I just went through the process of picking the brains (interveiwing) of 6 builders for similar parts for my Raptor and all of them gave me the specs of thier cams.

I would suggest you speak with atleast 3 builders before you make a decision, but if you feel comfortable doing business with FST then go for it. Once you spend your hard earned money for these types of mods, it's not easy to spend more money to change it if you find your not happy. I would also suggest that if your going to spend the money on a high comp piston and cam, what is a couple hundred bucks more to get the most out of the mods your doing, go with getting the head ported.

I dont know those LT-80s are pretty fast. The riders on those Lt-80s must have sucked.... My banshee can barely get by one when racing.

 

So what are u going to do to that warrior??!? sending the head out?

 

Whoa! A trail tech speedometer! What is that 8 horsepower? It has so make that Banshee scream like no other! Sounds like it's built to the hilt, ain't nuttin more you can do to it!

ps: I'm too cheap to do a cam now so i'm putting her together tomorrow so i can ride this weekend.

 

I also called FST to get specs on his Raptor cam. Dunlap would not tell me anything, he was even as arrogant to say that even if he gave me the specs I wouldn't understand them. I told him that I would not be buying any of his products. I then called Megacycle to ask about cams and they offered to fax me a spec sheet of the cams they have available. I doubt that Dunlap grinds cams, he probably sells cams that have been ground by Web or Megacycle. For Dunlap to insult a potential customer shows how muh FST cares about customer service.

Web offers two cams, they meausure duration at .050" lift.

Grind #461-496: 232 INT 235 EXH duration, .340" INT .355" EXH lift.

Grind #696-697: 242 INT 245 EXH duration, .340" INT .355" EXH lift.


Megacycle offers five cams, they measure duration at .040" lift. They also offer valve spring kits with titanium retainers.

Grind #280-x2: 243 INT 236 EXH duration, .395" INT .372" EXH lift, 106 Lobe centers.

Grind #280-x3: 276 INT 274 EXH duration, .452" INT .429" EXH lift, 102 lobe centers.

Grind #280-x4: same as #280-x3 except 108 lobe centers.

Grind #280-x11: 243 INT 236 EXH duration, .395" INT .372" EXH lift, 108 lobe centers.

Grind #280-x14: 292 INT 294 EXH duration, .452" INT .412" EXH lift, 108 lobe centers.
