Hey Guys,

Hope the title doesn't automatically make you think I'm some moron or something. Anyway, I was talking to my friend last night and he was trying to convince me that the 87 or 88 Banshee's will do over 100mph STOCK! I told him that they won't, but he doesn't believe me. I had also heard that the early years were faster than the ones out now, but I have never asked anybody intelligent if it was true or not. I do know that in there stock form no Banshee model will top 100. Hopefully I'm not wrong on this one. Can you guys verify my statement??? Oh, one more thing, I'm not dissing the Banshee, it's a great quad. Thanks.

-Josh

Ps. The guy I talked to
owned an 88 Banshee and
it went just over 70mph.
Can't be he remembered.

Try to find a nice way to tell your buddy that you are correct. A stock banshee of any year will not hit 100. Maybe with taller gearing...But the loss on the low end would be substantial. That's even assuming that the engine would be able to pull a gear required to boost the speed that much.
Tell you buddy more like 75-80 (maybe, down hill)... Most people will say less than that even. I never timed it...so who knows.

I doubt the J-arms made a 30 MPH difference.

Thanks guys. He wouldn't listen to me no matter what I said. Now that I've got a few people behind me he'll shut up.

QuadFather, Haha, is that the only difference between the model years? I would really like to know stuff like that. Thanks!

A couple of people have told me that ATV's have been slowed down over the years and aren't as fast as they used to be. When in reality they haven't slowed them down at all. Like quadfather said the only thing that has changed on the Banshee's is turning the J-arms anto a-arms. And the new airbox for this year.

A 87-88 banshee is not any different than the 2001 banshee except for the j arms and the jeting was a little richer. All stock banshees go 72 mph and that is a fact.

Man, I love how these rumors get started. I saw a guy on TV (Peoples court) saying that when he hit the other guys car he was going like 60mph. The judge asked him if a four wheeler can really go that fast and the guy said "Yeah, it's a 2000 Banshee and it goes 130mph". Looks like 2000 is the year to get...not 87-88. Thanks for the responses.

Hey quadfather, I know you're a smart guy and all ( Polaris riders always are ) but the "J" arms aren't the only differences in the early Banshees (87). They had a slightly different tranny with a higher gear ratio. Check it out. But no stock Shees are comming close to 100 mph.

I don't think you totally deserve the name "quadfather", maybe something more along the lines of "moped sped".

How's that Polaris you never ride??

I was just curious, does anyone happen to know the top speed of a stock 2001 Raptor. My boss and I both have one and have always been curious, but have never taken the time to pace'um. (I've heard they will do 130 mph! JUST KIDDING! Thanks!
