As of now, we all know that the Raptor transmission may be improved, but certainly has had the gear ratios bettered.

As posted already, we've got the option of trying to stir up enough stink to get Yamaha to fix them or offer a discounted parts price to do so.

Another option would be to fix it ourselves. So to anyone with a working knowledge of the Raptor tranny, what's it going to cost in parts to update from a 2001 tranny to a 2002 tranny if the transmision is still in good working order? This is a link to a Raptor parts and price list. Online Microfiche

My third option would be to scrap the whole Yamaha project, sell it (one less new sale for Yamaha) and buy a Cannondale. Cannondales warranty is only 6 months, but it seems that they have no problem actually doing work during that time and as a start up company, I'm sure they'll extend it for actually design and production flaws.

yo bash!
i can relate w/ your frustration. i spoke w/ the owner of my dealership yesterday about this and told him i wanted it fixed, NOW! long story, but he told me not to worry and that if my tranny ever goes, at any time, he will personally take care of it, if yamaha does not. he told me that he has sold 51 raptors from both shops, and has yet to have a single one come back for a tranny. thus, he hasn't had to deal w/ yamaha yet about this.

anyway, cannondale is good ( if you can keep the flywheel from turbo-lauching thru the engine case ), but i enjoy hunting for and buying all the cool aftermarket goodies to personalize and improve my raptor. cannot say i have found too many extended swingarms or a-arms for the cannondale, nor do i expect to. in otherwords, a small price to pay for a first year production bike. but, to each his own.

btw, have ya heard anything about swyteks (?sp) trinity top end?

bash,

Until we can see a new 2002 models part numbers and tooth size changes of the gears i cant tell you how much it would cost or what parts you would need. Will have to wait and see. If they only changed the gear ratios on 1-3 then it will cost around 350 for parts only probably.
