Also, yes, i have had some training (i guess you could call it) becuz my brother is now 20 and he helps me in all situations and has taght me all he knows. he owned a 300ex when i was 7 and i thought it was pretty cool just never considered it too fast. i am not trying to bragg in any way jus letting you people know how rediculous these laws are. i greatly appreciate any of you people who feel the same way for helping me out, THANX

I dont belive in it but i know where they are comin from im only 14 and on a moded 300ex and i am planing on geting a banshee soon. When i first started out i was 12 and on a 2000 bayou 220 when i first got it i rode around the house until i got used to shifting weight climbing and other stuff until i got used to it then my dad took me out for about a 40 mile ride and we went to all different terrains hillclimbs, road blocks, mud ,silt , crevaces and other difficult for a beginer. Then after a few weeks he let me go out by my self so i can wander off by myself and find some new stradages that would help me become a better rider. Then after a few months he got me a brand new 2001 300ex and i went on from there. I could never see my self riding a 90 i would hurt my self on it, but the manufactuers prolly see that allso but the law has to have them doing it.

one of my best friends is 14 years old.he's probably about 6'1 160lbs. and his parents had to buy him a Honda Sportrax 90 because the salesman had just started working there and wouldn't let him get anything bigger than a 90.he looks ridiculous on that little bitty thing.his 11 year old brother is almost too big for it.

ALrider,
thats my whole point.Kids today are much bigger/sronger than they ones of yesteryear. And putting a giant kid that size on an ATV of 90cc is just as dangerous as putting a smaller kid on a 600cc Grizzly.

when i wanted to buy my recon 4 years ago they wouldnt sell it to me or my dad cuz the primary rider was less than 16. But it wasnt a bad thing. I went to a cheaper shop in VA and got it.

Yeah, just like when I bought my raptor. We were joking with the salesmen that my mom was going to let me borrow it whenever I wanted to ride it. I am 15.

My kids are 4 and 12. Today I took back the Polaris Scrambler 90 that I had brought home just yesterday. Rated 12 and up, it was TOO DAMN FAST !!!...for my 4 year old. So we're getting him a Honda 90 sporttrax that we can put in first gear and take the shift lever off of untill he gets better. A Power Wheels Kawasaki graduate, he needed gas. Meanwhile, my 12 year old has had his Raptor for about 6-weeks, and is riding great. He started late, 10, on a 325 TrailBoss, a great beginner quad, big, stabile, auto, easy, fun, cheap. Then he did a year on a Polaris Expedition 4x4. 650 lbs. He handled it like a veteran, which is why I got him the Raptor. No regrets.

These age "guidelines" are there to protect the manufacturers from lawsuits, they are not laws.

So the 6-12 is really about 4 to 7, the 12 to 16 is really 8 to 11.
12 and up it is really experience that matters. My experienced 12 year old is fine on a Raptor, where a 35 year old newby should start off on a Sportsman or maybe a 400EX. My 4-year old is really pissed off I took his new 4-wheeler away from him, and the Honda won't be here for a couple of weeks, a new 2002. It's going to be a rough couple of weeks....

ATV age limits are as funny as Suzuki's quad line up. Come on, get real. I just turned 15 and i am 6'0 160 and well built. I started atv riding when i was 12 on a wolverine. I now have a 250r and have no proablem handling it at all. All my friends have raptors or banshees. They all can handle the machines fine.

Age limits are the reason atv racing will never reach the hight of dirt bike racing. Its to expensive to get kids under 16 into atv racing because to be coimpetive you are going to have to spend over 10k.

The Thing that makes me mad is that a (Just a Example) a 6 Year old kid could ride a YZ500 dirt Bike on trails but if that 6 year old kid was on a QuadZila there would be some fines there i think atv laws should be the same as dirt bike laws!!

last year, my parents were all set and ready to buy me a brand new 2001 warrior, or 400ex. we got to the dealership, and guess what, the guy wouldnt let me get it because i was 13. so over the year, i saved up all my $$, and bought my own 98 warrior used ,from a family friend. just goes to show ya, if you want something, you have to earn it yourself
