Does anyone know how many raptors were made in the 2001 production run, or with i can obtain that info. Any ideas on the 400ex.I read somewhere that 533,000 quads were sold in the us in 2000. Using that number, with honda being #1, Polaris #2, Yamaha #3. Just to look at numbers give honda 200,000 sales, polaris 175,000 , Yamaha 140,000 and the rest 18,000. These numbers are not right but i read the sport side counts for 18% of market. So yamaha sells 28,000 sport quads, Blasters, warriors, banshees, wolvorines, and badgers together. I does not look to me that there are as many raptors made. I would really like to find the answer. I don't think that 1 out of 5 quads yamaha sells is a raptor. My dealer can't find the answer for me. Help? If you have read this far, more blue or black raptors. Why are the black raptors faster?

Why are the black Raptors faster?! The hell...?

The same reason the yellow 400EXs are faster. The plant they made them in was different because the black plastic was cheaper there, and they set the rev limiters 400RPM higher than the plant making the blue Raptors...

cr@p. do i have to answer this question again?? it WAS ALREADY COVERED !! but again:
Black raptors are faster; this is true. yes, there is some credibility to the different rev limiter factor. however, there is ALSO the potential energy aspect. Black raptors, when sitting in direct sunlight absorb the heat of the sun greater than do the blue ones. this heat is, in turn, converted into POTENTIAL ENERGY and stored throughout the bike. now, when time comes to run, this POTENTIAL energy is converted into KINETIC energy which is RAW HP, BABYYYYYY....understand? good.

hell, it's the same reason black vettes are faster than red ones. am i expecting too much or don't we all learn this before puberty?

The only problem with that analogy is that heat robs power.

A cooler engine will always provide more power than a hot one.

Well we've got a late 2001 Raptor and the VIN # is 20,000 something. There was talk on here that at 6,000 they improved some gears in the tranny, and I don't think one Raptor on this Forum with a VIN # over 6,000 has reported a tranny problem, so there may be some truth to it. But a lot of us posted our VIN #'s and there were only a few higher than ours. So figure 21,000 ??

forlix- I was at a yama dealer the other day and they just finished putting two together, a blue and a black. the blue was was 12000 something and the faster black one was 6500 something. They both came in at the same time. Mine is 5700 and a friend that got one before mine was 12000 something. I guess mine was stuck on a boat, or the skipper of the EXXon Valdez was at the wheel.

airraptor when did you buy your quad? Does anyone know how they produce quads? Do that produce raptors for a week or two, then switch to beartrackers for a while then badgers? Box them all up and let them sit in the shipping yard?
