Hey don't get me wrong. I love the new Grizz. When I got rid of my Sportsman to get an H.O. I was very dissapointed because there was so little improvement in power and the gas shocks really stiffened up the ride. The new Grizz has power all over the place, I absolutely do not want my H.O. back. The lighter weight, narrower engine and just the fit and feel of it are better than the Polaris.
But the Polaris knows how to slide, and it is just a matter of width, which is going to be easily remedied with tires/wheels and spacers.
This constant insistance that IRS doesn't slide is annoying and utterly wrong. Rally cars spend half their time sideways, every single one of them has independent suspension. I do believe this new Grizz was designed wide, then marketing decided to narrow it up for the woods guys, knowing that it is easy to widen back out for the guys without trees.
I am getting used to all these quads needing to be tweaked before they are right. The DS needed upper A-arms and front shocks, and the XCT tires were the icing on the cake. The Raptor needed a WIDER rear axle, and one that wasn't made from recycled soda cans.
Yamaha, and the japanese manufacturers in general have a thing for narrow. Even their cars and trucks are narrow. I have heard it has something to do with their tax structure, the wider a vehicle, the more tax you pay on it. I don't know how that applies to ATV's sold in the U.S. but maybe they just think that way as a matter of habit.
Anyway, The new Grizz is getting the WIDE TRACK treatment as soon as stuff arrives next week. I will let you know how it all turns out.
And by the way, If Woods guys don't slide, and they think IRS doesn't slide, why don't all the woods guys have IRS? and I'm talkin' real IRS, like the Polaris and the GRIZZ. That Suzuki/Arctic Cat IRS IS CRAP! Had one, 500 AutoCat with Semi-IRS,
no sway bar, sold it after 106 miles, talk about a death ride!!

Aftermarket rims would widen it a bit. I know that my ITP's made my AC wider than the stockers because they are offset more. A nice gain. Spacers would easily do the trick, and I don't think it will be long before there are a boo-coo ton of aftermarket things for the Griz.

Easy fella,, Douglas makes a 12" diameter rim in the 4-110 bolt pattern, 8" wide, that's 5 out and 3" in. The stock rears are 1.5" out. So that's 7" wider right there. Plus 25"x12.5"x12" Spider tracks in the rear will add another 2 inches. Hey, IT'S A GRIZZLY!! it's supposed to be BIG! Then in front, I'm going to put the stock rear tires and wheels on 1.5" spacers, that's in front. That will add 5" in front and 9" in back for a total of 48.5" in front, and 52.5" in the rear. Wow, that is big! Hmm. maybe 3 out and 5 in. That would be 5" wider than stock with the Spidertraks, 48.5" rear, If the front just used the rear tires and wheels that would add only 2" for 45.5" or with spacers, 48.5 front and rear. "Lucy! We got some esperimentin to do!"
Oh, and these are about the only options that I could find. There is a 7" wide rim that's 2 out 5 in, or a 6" that's 2 out 4 in.
Basically all these rims can be reversed. You can order them either way or switch them by plugging and drilling the valve stem hole to the other side. ITP didn't have any 8" rims in 12" diameter, at least not in aluminum. I figure Yamaha tried hard to keep the weight down, so will I. A valve stem can be placed inside out with a cap and some silicone to seal the old valve stem hole.
So I have two tires, two rims and two spacers coming, Wide track country......
