I am looking at a photocopy out of the shop manual(rear shock absorber and swing swingarm).
The nut i am refering to is #3,the cylinder is#4.Any parts in further than the cylinder don't come out i guess.
The dealer said once these 3 parts are removed from each side and the shock removed from bottom the rear end will easily move rearward.I guess this exposes a spline at front of boot.

I hope the dealer is right!

Thank's!

That does seem to be the case. You might also post around on some other forums to see if anyone else has done that.

Good luck

I am wondering when you say "that seems to be the case", that you mean the method i was told by the dealer is not as difficult as we thought?

Since I have never done this, it is all speculation. The manual shows that prior to doing what the dealer told you, everything else must be removed. I agree that I do not see why. The shaft seems to be made where it would just slide out as he told you. I would give it a try with all due caution. Let me know how things turn out in case I ever have to duplicate your efforts!

Well it's done!
It took 2 of us about 4-5 hours to replace large boot on the 98-99 bigbear.

It went prettywell as the dealer said.

My bro in law thought that lineing up the u-joint that comes out of engine to the spline coming from the rear end would be extremely difficult.

But it just slid right in!.
He was certain it would be almost immpossible for it to go in(he's a pretty good mech).

He say's we got lucky, i said "i'd rather be lucky than good".
Atleast i learned how to put a rear end with drive shaft into a 98-99 Bigbear.

Cool! Glad to hear it went well.
I rode mine for a bit yesterday afternoon doing some chores around the house. I had forgotten just how strong it was. I have been riding my '01 most of the time and the '99 has been the one that my stepsons use to ride with me. The '01 is all cleaned and shined up for sale or trade in and not getting ridden for the next couple of weeks. I had been thinking about selling the'99 since they can't grasp the concept of cleaning it after a ride. It's paid for so maybe I'll just be a "dual" quad guy. Hey, you can't have too many Bears, right?

Absolutly right!

by the way we had to remove the shock from the top instead, the lower bolt was seized.

Talk to you later.
