How much is it costing to get the tranny fixed on the Raptor? A buddy had his go out and the dealership is telling him abuse, not made to race. From what I'm reading this is a very common problem with the tranny....a class action type problem. $7000 machine should not be having tranny problems with 6 months riding no matter how hard you rip through the gears. Your responses are appreciated.

Unfortunately I am the guy he is talking about.. It seems to find a nuetral in between all the gears. What dd others do when they started having these problems and how much did it cost them to fix the problem? Thanx

 

Well, I have explained this too many times already but, here it goes.

I had a false neutral between 1st and 2nd for a couple months, then one day it was skipping in 2nd gear. It felt as if the chain was skipping over the sprocket but, only in 2nd, all the other gears worked fine.

I called Yamaha and they said I had to take it to the dealer.

This is the most important part: I have a very good relationship with the head mechanic at my dealer.

I took it to him, keeping in mind I was out of warranty by 4 weeks. He tore it apart and then called Yamaha. He spoke to some B*tch that said Yamaha would "goodwill" me and cover the parts but, I had to pay the labor. **** He then went over this B*tches head and spoke to someone else and that Yamaha guy said "don't worry about it, fix whatever needs to be repaired and I'll cover it all".

Needless to say, it didn't cost me a dime, zero, zilch, nothin! It could have cost approx $400-$600 in labor and approx $400-$600 in parts, OUCH!

If you are interested, I would be willing to fax you a copy of everything that was replaced in my tranny, thus allowing you to have an idea of what was replaced.

The key here is to find a dealer that stands behind the customer for Yamaha's mistakes.

I think I have same problem - already! My Raptor is only a few weeks old and after a half hour riding or so it is a big pain to get it from 1st to 2nd. It holds up in neutral. Is this what you have? (I thought Raptor gear problem was the jumping out of gear thing)

Can you please fax me details? I am sorry, but I live in Amsterdam, Holland. Let me know if this is a cost issue and we can work something out. I have told my dealer and he doesn't believe it.

Guys n gals..... I don't have a raptor but I have been reading alot of forums about these gear problems... It seems that alot of raptor owners have this happening to them and the bike runs fine. Most people said don't even worry about it, and it happens in between every gear. I personnaly have no clue, but I can see the frustration and would try to get to the bottom of this. I will make some calls and see what I can find out. gl

Check it out... First of all make sure you change your oil often, that prevents your clutch from being notchie; in other words makes it easier to shift. Also, you need to check your actual positioning of your shifter. It should be at least level with that of your footpeg if not just a tad bit lower. Finally, and this is last resort, there is an adjustment on (I believe) the left side of the engine which allows you to fine tune the clutch adjuster. This problem lies more with reverse. If you have a problem grinding the gears going into reverse then you may want try that adjustment. If you deside to make this adjustment do only a little at a time. Personnaly I would bring it to the dealer.
