A few months ago Dirtwheels did an article on exhausts. The test quad was a 400ex so I wonder how much of that testing would aply to the Raptor. Several pipes were close in horsepower gains but I believe that they picked the White Bros. E-Series pipe as the overall best taking power gains and noise into consideration.

The Michigan sound law WILL be strictly enforced everywhere next year. Silver Lake will be checking both at the gate and inside the park! Be ready! Big Gun offers a Quiet and Super Quiet insert that will put you at the required 94 and 92 dB's. Could be worse, we could live in Oregon where it is 92dB.

From what I'm gathering aftermarket pipes produce more HP., but at the cost of loudness. Seems like law-enforcement agencies are cracking down on that noise, everywhere... Not worth the trouble for me!!!!

I am going keep mine stock. I have pulled the spark arrestor out a few times and it sounds real nice to me. I have neighbors to north and northwest of me and in the country where we have our place you can hear things so far away. In the city you can't hear across the street. I like to ride but I have to live with this people too and they don't have ATV's. We have so much fun sometimes when we ride, its almost a sin, and with our helments on its hard to hear the exhast anyway. Quiet is the word for me.

FYI - Here in Oregon - Oregon Dunes 93dB, Sand Lake 97dB, Tillamook Forrest 99dB. Intermittently enforced except during peak usage. None of the pipes tested on that 400ex review are suitable for the Oregon Dunes. I've been looking, but haven't seen any reviews of silencers with Quiet Options installed. I've been waiting for now, as I don't want to spend $300 for a silencer, add $50-$100 for the quiet inserts, then find out in the end the bike is still too loud or the 93dB quiet version is a 1 or 2 hp gain for $450 investment.

I was out a couple weeks ago at sand lake and someone installed a quiet core on their Raptor. The bike was noticeably louder (probably under the 97dB limit). But it sounded like crap. Like coughing into a tin can. Don't want to spend $450 for that neither.
