Build a big tabletop or something along those lines, just keep riding over it going a little faster each time you feel comfortable, eventually you'll be launching it. I try to keep the revv's low towards the bottom of the jump and as I'm going up I keep giving it more gas and go off the jump around peak power, kind of hard to explain (expesically cuz I'm riding a 2stroke), just make sure you have enough revv's left to gas it when you go off the jump, this will keep the rear end down, better off to land on the rear then land on the front. I think a big part is not hesitating when you get to the top, either do it or dont, if it doesnt feel right dont do it, if it feels mint give it the gas. Just keep riding it as much as possible, thats the best way to learn, before you know it you'll be jumping off everything, rocks/stumps/jumps/whatever... If you dont have a helmet, get one good luck!

I just started jumping today. There are some hills here that level off at the top and then drop back down. The biggest one I did was probably only 2' high and about 6' long but it still felt really cool going up a steep incline and than dropping the nose down to land on the other side. There are some really big ones over there too but I'm still to chicken **** to do them, LOL.

I use basically the same technique. Basically what you are doing by riding up to slow and blipping the throttle is loading the suspension, this helps to "spring" you off of the jump and get you a little more air and a more manageable flight profile (at least this is how look at it, I'm a beginner though), you seem to be able to manipulate the bike more by jumping in this manner.

I agree with the tabletop method, thats what I've been looking for, if you come up short your not going to eat it! Good luck, Aaron.

once you start getting major airtime jumping will be 2nd nature to you. I have hit little jumps and big jumps and I think little jumps can be tricky sometimes cause you don't have much time to think in the air and land right. But with big jumps you can manuever your quad in the air and land perfectly and the quad has time to level out. I also accelerate up the jump. If you build one make sure to add a little lip to it too.

Better add a couple of bags of Sakrete too, I am assuming they still only have sand in Florida.

I too just start jumping recently and don't know a whole lot. One thing I can tell you for sure, is that if you are jumping a single jump that drops off real good after it.... faster is usually better!.
I was hitting this jump down home and it was actually a double. This was the first time I had done any real jumping w/ my quad so I was too chicken to do the double. I just hit the first side softly and everything felt great UNTIL I hit the ground. If you are going fast then you aren't landing straight down, you have angle to it... I landed STRAIGHT down... suspension bottomed, arms gave way, and helmet POUNDED handle bars!
Thats all I know, so hopefully this will help ya out and you won't learn the same way I did.

OH yeah... how do you guys go about building jumps? Are you using tractors and such? Is it worth the time and effort to build one w/ just hand tools?

Good luck, and thanks.

Why add a lip on top?? Everytime my riding buddy adds a lip to the jumps I end up jolted in the air and landing on the handle bars. Any tips?

I find that a nice lip helps me get more air (height wise) Vs. lenght wise, for example, my table top when that was all together I'd get like 3 or so ft of air 20-25 ft long, on one of the trails there is a rock sticks up about 1 ft and is about 3ft wide I can get more air (height wise) off that little rock then I can on my big table top because of the lip, it throws the machine right up in the air about 5-6ft and about 5-6ft long, it seems to help alot by gassing it when you go off the steep lips, I havent been out of control yet (very suprising) and thats all I do, just give it the gas right when I'm going off the jump it will help keep the rear end down (if its got too much of a lip theres nothing you can do, and it might throw you forwards) just gotta get really use to the jump so you'll know how it handles in the air. Practicing wheelies helped me loose my fear of going over backwards a little, I'd much rather go over backwards then forwards, thats scary. Last but not least, if you dont feel comfortable dont do it, its not worth it. If you are really launching it make sure to bring a buddie that way in case you get hurt you have some help.

Woodwarrior, I wouldnt waste my time with a shovel, try to find a big mound of dirt and work it down if you cannot find a tractor.

advice for Jumping:
1. Blip the gas off the lip
2. Be Patient...Build up to the big jumps...keep incresing your speed, until you are confotable.
3. Bring a Buddy...they can give you advice on what your not doing.( sometimes all you need is someone there to tell you "a little more gas and you got it!"
4.*** OFF THE SEAT!! squating position uses your body like bio-shock to absorb the landing.

Advice for jumps:
1.go to a race. find the richest kid with the shiniest quad.Poch his track when he's not around ( you'd be surprised how well that works).
2. In the trails,i like to find toppled tree's crossing the trail.pile nearby rocks against it and add some dirt to smooth it out...whola!! instant jump. average height 4-6ft...length 10-20.
