GUYS, PLEASE HELP....URGENT!!!

Okay, I guess it's not life or death here, but I need to know how you can tell what year a Banshee was manufactured. Can you determine it by the vin #? Is it somewhere else on the frame? I need to know ASAP.
The reason that I ask is because I think that I have been HAD! I just bought my Banshee and I was told that it was a 1999. Now, I feel like a moron because I didn't happen to question why it had white fenders and a blue tank (just like the 1998). I just figured that they made them the same two years in a row. It seemed kinda fishy, but it didn't dawn on me until tonight when I was looking at pics of Banshee's and all of the 1999's I have found are the Team Yamaha Blue, or whatever you call it.
I need to know ASAP so I can go tell the guy that I bought it from (I honestly don't think that he even knows). It's not a bad quad, and even if it is a 1998, I wouldn't care, but the fact is that I THOUGHT I was buying a 1999, and I was TOLD that I was buying a 1999. Maybe if I can tell this guy he'll give me a few hundred $'s back then I can buy new plastic for it. If not, I'll give it back to him.
Thanks for any advice.

JY43GGWD would be the beginning of your VIN (the 43 is important). I can't remember the 99s (I was comparing 98 and 97)...and can't find the site anymore...
I too was in the same situation...97 plastics, "manufactured in feb 97" on the frame, but the VIN (the one ont he left side, under the engine) says it's a 98...
If you can find 5FK2 somewhere in your VIN, it's a 99...
I'll try to be more precise as soon a I re find THE site...

Even if it was a '98 you got a good price on a quad that runs well. Most people that buy a used Banshee have to do the top end and bushings. I can understand you feel like you got taken and I would mention it to the seller once you get some evidence. I would keep the quad though and go on from here. Enjoy it!

Zorro, your a genius...thanks for the fast reply. Here is my #
JY43GG0301C016273....So that means that it's a 1998 right?
I'm a little ticked off right now, but I really don't think the guy new it was a 1998. If it is, then I'm going to call him tomorrow and ask him what he wants to do about it.
From looking at your post, I would say that mine is a 1998 if I understand it correctly. Please confirm...I'm obviously not very smart.
Thanks,
-Josh

ridnwarrior,
I agree completely. Like I said, it doesn't really bother me to own a 1998, since it's the same quad anyway, but it's the fact that I THOUGHT I was getting a 1999.
Honestly even if I knew it was a '98 from the start I probably would have still bought it, just because it ran good, and it was there. I will post a link to pics of it, I could use your honest opinions once you see what kind of shape it's in. I took them tonight and just need to upload them.
I appreciate your help.

Ps. I still can't believe that I
didn't notice the colors sooner...duh.

Yeah, it's time to update my profile and take the Banshee right off of it. The guy is either going to give me some cash back or else he's getting the quad back.
Anyway, here are the pics of the quad...notice the the rear grab bar is bent up, and also the far side fender is cracked, but you can't see it in the pics. Sticks out like a sore thumb really though. Do you guys think that it's worth $3000?
1999....oh wait....1998 Banshee #1
1999....oh wait....1998 Banshee #2
Thanks.
