Which is the best thing to do as far as an airbox goes? Modify stock lid with vents, take off lid, or aftermarket lid? I kow that i will have to step up a jet size or two afterwards but thats not till after. I wanna kno all the pros and cons of the three. Will vents in the lid keep out any water at all if a little goes that way. I dont ever get in any deep water over the hubs usually but im sure sme gets thrown up there. Thanks a lot for the help.

I wondered the same thing. Not worried about the dirt and dust. I'm more worried about the water. I'm running a K&N filter with an Outerwears prefilter. I just started working on modifying my stock lid tonight. Hopefully will finish tomorrow. I bought those 1" air filters. They come in a pack of 6. I'm going to drill the 6 holes in the stock airbox lid. Oil the filters and insert them. I called Outerwears a few weeks ago and ordered 2 sheets of water repellent air filter material with logos embossed on them. I ordered a 5x5 sheet to cover the snorkle intake with. I'll hold that on with wire. I ordered a 8x10 sheet which I'll cut to size for the airbox lid. I cut a sheet of 1/8" thick plastic to 5-1/2" by 7". Then I cut a hole in the 1/8" plastic 4" by 5-1/2". I'm going to drill through the ring and the Outerwears fabric and the stock airbox lid and install with countersunk screws and nuts every 1" around the perimeter. This should protect the airbox from water splashing. Hopefully this should work. When I want to clean the air filter I don't have to worry. I'll just take out the stock 5 screws and pull the lid off. I can also clean the 6 1" air filters by pulling the foam out of them from the inside of the lid. My cost was about $7.00 for the 1" filters and $21.00 for the Outerwears sheet. The plastic I had already and I'm going to get the 20 screws and nuts I need tomorrow at the hardware store.
