I ended up messing mine up by trying to get it out. It will go back in, but it's all bent up, and looks like hell. Good thing I just ordered a new pipe. The only way that I got it out was to use a bearing puller/slide hammer setup. I just tightened it up as tight as it would go, and started pounding away. It came out with just a few tries, and didn't mess anything up(other than what I allready did). It's in there really tight, and it's hard to get a hold of without bending it up. It did seem to provide more power, and torque. Not to mention made it sound much better for free. I recomend doing it until you get a pipe, which is what I did. I did that, and modded my air box. I then rejeted to 145-150 jets. It really helped with the power. I hope to see a much better improvement with the pipe/filter/jet setup I ordered though.

Later,
Dan

Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear that you bent it up. Thats what I was afraid of. The owners manual just tells you to pull it out. Go figure.

Try this method.

Get a fine tipped flat-head screwdriver and peck it between the SA and muffler assembly. Use a pair of pliers and turn the screwdriver. SA comes out easy with no damage.

I used the screwdriver method when taking mine out just to see how it sounded and still messed it up a little. Looked like whoever put it in by the paint marks that it was not straight when they wacked it in so that made it harder to get out for me.

The slide hammer method is the way to go. If you don't have one, or know someone who has one go to any parts store. They usually let you borrow tools. You just have to leave a deposit for it, which you get back when you return it. Ask for a axle bearing puller. To put it back in get some emery cloth, and slowly work the edge. You won't have to take off much to get it to fit less tight. Then you can remove it with pliers easily. I also tried the screwdriver method, and thats were it started getting messed up. Mine was just in there too solid. The slide hammer setup wouldn't damage anything.

Good luck,
Dan

Since it may have been jammed into the muffler tighter than normal, pecking and turning the screwdriver in several locations at the SA and muffler assembly may have worked better. This method is probably better overall....but mine slipped right out just pecking at one location...apparantly not jammed in as tight as yours was.
