I have constructed an air box vent that is 4 inches in diameter made of a piece of plastic drainage pipe I picked up at Home Depot and a foam filter element. I cut the pipe down to about ½ inch, cut out a circle of foam, and used epoxy resin to affix it in the plastic circle. I plan on cutting a circle out of the top of the air box and mounting the vent using the epoxy resin. The vent will only stand up about ½ inch on the lid, this will allow plenty of room between the seat and lid to draw air in but will allow me to filter out some of the dirt. I also cut out all the ridges in the top of the air box lid and sanded them smooth to give the filter more room and decrease any turbulence in the box. Do you think this will net me much improvement? Also how much do you think I will need to go up on the main jet? I’m running a 150 right now with the uni-filter and the plug is a light gray to light tan.

I once cut a 4" hole in a lid and then held a piece of filter foam over the hole with a slightly larger ring with 4 nuts/bolts.

westmarine.com also sells vent/grills that would work well too.

I was installing the 6, one inch Univents in my airbox and tried blowing air through one of them. I was surprised how hard it was to get air through the foam in the vents. It made me wonder if any additional air comes through foam when there is an open hole already (the snorkel opening). Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks,

I agree. The 1" Uni vents are weak! Is there a spot on the back of your air box where you can cut a 3" or 4" hole. The Raptor has a small gap between the airbox and the battery box where I cut a 4" hole rather than on the top of the lid. It worked well.

Blue leader...did the 4" hole behind your airbox give you much more airflow? I want the power gains of no airbox but with the protection of the lid. I was thinking of adding a snorkle angled towards the back, towards the battery.(about the size of the front air intake boot) I suppose that not much water could get in if properly angled???

The 4" hole in the back of the airbox did flow more air and I did have to jet up. I put a stainless louvered plate over the hole (West Marine) and it worked well. I also removed all obstructions and dividers in the airbox lid. Check out the Graydon airbox for $200. Outerwears velcro lid and 250R k&n filter.

How many sizes did you have to go up on the main jet when you cut the 4" hole in the box? I used the outerwear that came with the Uni- filter, it is very course so I don't think the air will have trouble getting through. I tried using the outerwear but the filter is to large to use the outerwear with the lid.

I don't remember. I added the hole which leaned things out. So I modified the lid and it leaned it out more. And I added more discs to my e-series exhaust. Then I jetted up. Your Warrior is probably easier to jet than my twin carb Raptor so buy 3-4 jets and start experimenting. The Honda 300 or 400 is more similar to your quad so you may want to check the Honda forum. Good luck.

i drilled 6 one inch holes in the airbox lid of my 2000 wolverine. this and the additon of a k&n air filter. I had to go from the stock 140 main jet to a 150 to get the air fuel mix right. I did not put anything over the holes in the lid. I was suprised at the increase in power. I was drag racing my wife who rides the same machine only 2001. on grass, shes 50 lbs lighter. not only did i smoke her. i pulled wheelie in second. (not a big one, but a wheelie non the less!)
