they're about the same...55-60mph at best. The stock 300ex might be a "tad" quicker on hard pack (or asphalt), but on the loose stuff the wolverine does get the jump off the line. In the mid-range between 25-45 the edge would go to the 300ex, but hardly noticeable. If I was a sport/trail(especially camping) the wolverine would be excellent. But my riding is more of the trail "racey" sport type of riding and since the 300EX has pretty good suspension for that type of riding...I opted for that one. If you already have a wolverine keep it, upgrade it, because it is also an excellent quad!

Its VERY CLOSE. I have raced my buddies stock 98 300EX many times with my 2000 Wolverine, and he pulls me by 1-2 mph at best. Either way, i feel the Wolverine is one of the best all-around atvs available.
Happy Trails all, shawn

I ride a wolverine that will blow a modified 300 away until top end. Off the line he can't touch me. All I have is a pipe, k+n and dyno-jet kit. His 300 has the same modifications. on long straight aways he will pull a couple of lenghts on me, but it takes him quite a while to get there. If you plan on doing any riding other than dirt roads, the wolverine is the way to go. In the mud, sand, snow or hill climbs the wolverine is far superior.

....and if your racing around, jumping, sliding and want better handling at higher speeds the 300EX all the way. Both are excellent performers at lower speeds. The lil' 300EX has a weight advantage and the Wolverine has a low end power advantage. The 300EX's rival is the Warrior when it comes to "sport" riding. I guess the question was already answered a while ago, but this got interesting. Hey all you Wolverineers, let's ride and party. Stay cool !!

I raced my cousin's stock Wolverine against my 300ex w/ pipe only. I blew him away every time. We were on the road though.

Cory,
I don't know, thats a close one, but I know that a modified Wolverine isn't as fast as a NON-H.O. Scrambler 500.
What all mods, i don't know.. all he would say (BEFORE we raced) was that it was OVER 400 cc and I could see the FMF pipe..

I used to own a 97 300 EX and it was fun for riding wheelies and manicured trails, but ANYTHING rough, the Wolverine or Scrambler is CLEARLY superior.
