Hey Harold, I have had mine cranked up pretty good at times, and I dont think I ever hit the limiter. As far as the tiny tach.. Dennis Kirk has them, but only for a two-stoke. Wont work for us because the 2 fires every 180 degrees, compared to our 360. I did find a tach/ hour meter though but it didnt come in yet. Go to www.jackssmallengines.com and click the link on the left. I think I only paid about $38.00 for it. Plus its an hour meter too that also reminds you to perform maintenance every 25 hrs. When I get it and install, I will post it.

I have a tiny Tach, model number 4962nr* I ordered it threw briggs and stratton at my small engine shop and it is for any single cyl 4 stroke $20.00. Found some intersting thigns about the rev limiter on bikes/quads, frist thing is when the limiter kickes in it cuts the spark as many times as needed to control the RPM, simply makes it a 8 cycle. when watching the tach on my 86'200SX it climbes steady past 5,900 rpm then right around 6,200 the tach instantly reads 4,000RPM showing it is cutting almost half the Spark in the engine to stop overrevving, I can still overrev another 10MPH out of it, you will be supprized how soon the spark cut is enguaged, barley noticable to even us mechanic's.

Well for one the Wolverine does not have a rev limiter. Honda uses them alot, but not Yamaha. The RPM limit is because of the intake and exaust restriction. A new cam and port job, with exaust makes all the difference in the world. Mine hits about 8-9000 now...

Thumper, all machines have some type of a rev-limit. Yamaha uses a THORS system and all CDIs can only perform to a certain RPM so even if the machine could breathe correctly it be still limited by the built in limiter in the CDI.

I believe the TORS system is used to cut RPMs if the throttle sticks , not limit them. I've had my Blaster revved wayyy out with a stuck throttle and air leak (yes both together, removed TORS). It kept going till I yanked the carb off. Any ways max RPM is less than max HP so it's not that important.
