Zoinks!!!
I would think your friend would be the talking about the Lynnville area near the intersection of interstate 64 and state highway 61 that goes down to Boonville. I was riding that area in the early 70's when it was nomands land and there wasn't such a thing as a ATV or Quad. It was a dirtbike heaven in those years. The last bike I would have had was a 75 KX250 that I rode in that area. You could go the backroads from Tennyson to Lynnville. I haven't been riding in that area for a long time now because we have our own place. I am old enough that I was able to ride my 69 Honda mini trail 50 in Lynnville park which is closed now to riding. That area south of Lynnville is really torn up from all the Quads and 4 wheel trucks. The riding was so much better back then not as many people. I can't beleive now that I climbed some of those hills when I was riding in the 70's. With those old stripper pits it was up one hill and down the other it was so much fun. Some of the areas are down right dangerous because you could go up a steep hill and on the other side be a 100-150 foot drop off. Sometimes I would climb the hill to make sure I wasn't going to end up in a pit on the other side. Many people have got hurt bad in that area. I am sure there are many Atv's rotting away at the bottom of those deep pits. I don't think you are even suppose to be on the west side of state highway 61 just south of Lynnville anymore. Last week when I was heading for our place right there at 64 + 61 the Conservation officer was sitting there on the highway. What atv people are doing, they are riding right along the interstate and then they have torn down the fence to get into that area. They are shooting themself in the foot doing that. What might happen is that they might someday ban all riding in that area because of a few goofballs. I would assume your friend knows about the riding area just east of Spurgeon. Thats really a neat area too. I almost got to purchase land in that area from Interlake. I had an accepted bid by the Log Creek church area and even went in there and marked it off, then the State if Indiana took it right out from underneath me when they purchased it all. They took a couple thousand acres not sure on exact total. They are still letting you ride in there now. I am just lucky I got the place we have now. It was a matter of be in the right place and at the right time and a bunch of people walking out when the State of Indiana showed up and then I decided to stay to see how much they were going to pay for property that day. I stayed at the auction and put a bid in and I couldn't beleive I got what I did. Now I am almost surrounded by the State of Indiana. Its nice because no one will ever be able to build there because its the home of Bambi and Charlie the beaver and whatever else the state of Indiana deems a natural resourse.
