2002 Raptor...and The Hatfield & McCoy Trails...
#1
Hey, I'll be turning 16 this November, and my parents are thinking about getting me a quad for my birthday, and I do NOT want a slowww 4x4 by any chance, so my choices are 400ex, Banshee, or Raptor. I'll be doing alot of trail riding with my friends so, I'm guessing the 400ex or Raptor would be the better choice, and I kinda like the Raptor better (Comfortable, 660 liquid cooled engine, reverse, etc...) I'm a very good rider, not a novice rider at all I'm pretty aggessive, so the more power the better, ya know? Anyway, has anyone ridden a Raptor, or any other sportquad in The Hatfield & McCoy Trails? I'm not sure what kind of riding it is, I'm just hoping it's not too difficult terrain for 2 wheeled drive ats's. Hopefully not like a lot of big mud holes and crap I'd get stuck in. Anyway, thanks guys

WhatRULookinAt,
I spent five days riding my Raptor there (all three locations). My girlfriend and her son rode the 400exs. You can do 90% of the trails on a Raptor (not including those designated for motorcycles only). There are a few trails that would be easier to get up on a 4X4 due to the large rocks but you can still make it if you choose a good line and stay on the throttle. There are some mud holes on a few black trails that have go arounds or you can try getting the Raptor through them. Take a strap and another quad can pull you out if you don't make it. The holes aren't so long that the 2nd quad can't be on dry ground pulling you out.
If you can get a 2002 Raptor, I would go for it over the 400ex. Now a 450ex or 650ex might be questionable. Compromise with them and get a used 400ex and a truck to haul it in and now you are talking. Tell them how much college tuition you are going to save them by going in state to WVU when you graduate from high school. Parents are very gullible and want to believe everything you tell them. Can't hurt to try.
