Thinking of new quad: 2002 Banshee or 2002 Raptor
#21
Banshee owners will tell you to buy a Banshee, and Raptor owners will tell you to buy a Raptor. Try to ride both and see which one you like better, or talk to people that have owned both. I had a 96 Banshee and then got a Raptor. I think the Raptor is alot better for me, however some people may be the other way around.

660r01 is right the only way you are going to know wich one is the right quad for you is by riding them both.I am a 2 strokes guy so i am biaised towards them,i cant give you a true and honest opinion and i know it so i wont.Try them both buy the one you like the most you cant go wrong either way, each of them have their strong and weak points. You are going to spend alot of money and YOU are going to ride it so who cares if I or anyone else think you made the right choice as long as you are having fun with it.

The Banshee jumps better? You have never jumped a Raptor. The Banshee is known for its weak suspension, and bad geometry.
To solve part of that problem, you need to upgrade your shocks.
Here's my opinion, based on owning LT250R, Scrambler, Xplorer, 400EX, Raptor, YZ426, and riding with many other machines, including a 100mph Banshee (not just geared, but single carb, ported, piped, extended swingarm, etc.):
Dunes are the place where the Banshee dominates. No other machine can come close. If you spend the same amount of money modifying the Banshee as you would another machine, you will get a better duner. Period.
The Raptor suspension is head and shoulders above the Banshee. The amount of engine power is very close in stock form. The addition of reverse, and the fact it is a four stroke and doesn't need to be rebuilt every year, makes a huge difference in riding every weekend instead of the 'fix to ride' symptoms which the Banshee tends to have.
If you are a 'gear head' and likes to fix and modify, then the Banshee is a better platform as parts and options are in great supply. The Raptor can also be modified, but in its stock form, it's a great bike as is, and I like to ride more often than I like to be wrenching.
Both have ups and downs, choose one, and ride it for a few years. Then switch if you want to down the road. Just get out there and ride......

<< the banshee jumps the best because it takes off faster and it is lighter >>
BS.. they are a pound apart in dry weight.. and if you think that matters then go take a leak before you ride.. and loss 2 pounds..
This thread is as stupid as every other banshee vs raptor thread I have seen... they are apples and oranges, trust me.. I KNOW.
I have owned 3 banshees and now have 2 raptors.
Banshee, great in the sand, drag racing, crappy in the woods, jumping.
Raptor, Great in the woods, good hill climber, has reverse.
Banshee, 2 stroke, it's gonna need top ends (I don't care what anyone tells you), but other than that it is a lot less complex than a 4 stroke.
Raptor, 4 strokes are just notoriously longer lasting, and if you don't believe me then why don't we have 2 stroke cars, enough said!
Banshee, fun to ride when it rips, ya.. I'll give ya that, and I miss it.
Raptor, damn is it nice to have that low end power when you need it.
Banshee... ride in the woods, and you will sooner or later be pushing it backwards
Raptor, turn a ****, click down a gear, and go backwards.
I ride the woods, I am so raptor biased it isn't funny. If I lived next to the sand dunes, I'd be banshee biased.
Get whats right for you, ride it like you stole it, and damn, just have fun.
