Changing Sprockets Ratio

Will I loose too much acceleration (or torque) on a 250 2-stroke ATV by removing 2 teeth of the rear sprocket? Is that OK or should I go with just 1 less in the rear sprocket. I want to get a little more top speed but without loosing too much acceleration. Anyone tryed this before?

Just FYI, the rear sprocket is usually about 3 to 4 times the size of the front sprocket. This means that going up or down by 3 or 4 teeth on the rear sprocket has the same effect (but opposite) as going up or down 1 tooth on the front sprocket. In other words, if you go down 2 teeth on the rear sprocket you will have the HALF of the effect of going up 1 tooth on the front. I usually notice the change the most when taking off from a stop in first gear (remember that you are changing the gearing in every gear, not just 5th). If you don't ride slow, technical trails you probably won't have a problem. If your engine will pull top gear with the new gearing, you will gain about 5% in speed in every gear (in other words, if your top speed was 60 mph with the old gearing, and you can still pull top gear OK, then you should be able to do about 63 mph, for a 5% increase in gearing).
