Yamaha Discussions about Yamaha ATVs.

Don't you think Yamaha would be awsome if they put the YZ400 4-stroke in a quad??

Don't you think that this would be the most AWSOME quad built buy the factories??? A 50+ hp motor that weighs only a few pounds more than a 250 2-stoke!! slap that engine in a frame equal to the 400EX frame....and watch the new DS650 eat roost!

Yes, it would!

the YZ400F has been dyno'd and it's not so
much the Peak power, as the fact that even at
12000 R.P.M it's still making over 30H.P.

the new model(I think is a 426)is even better, word on the Street(Dirt) has that.

See'n what Yamaha has done in the Road Bike(both sport and Cruiser), Dirt Bike and
Snowmobile(Snow Goer picked the SRX700 as the best snowmo, word on the Street(Snow)
verifys this),
It shall be truly amazing what happens when
they Go full out on ATV's, after all
since the Rubicon will not be out until 2001,
I would suspect my namesake along with the
DS650 stand the best chances of winning ATV
of the Year in the Mags(for what that is Worth), allready it's a huge success(that matters more) and that is only the Tip of the
potental Iceberg.

Our Yamaha dealer said he talked to the Yamaha Rep. about sticking a YZ400 engine into a quad frame. The Rep said that it won't happen, engine was specially made for 230 pound motorcycle not 400 pound ATV, the maintaince schedule would be awful, I'm told.

Yeah, but plenty of people have put the engine in race quads....and they have no problem out of it...plus, it can't be any worse than a banshee engine. lol

If i knew that they would come out with one i would go down to my yamaha shop and put some money down on it right away, but thats not the case. That would be the coolest.

Screw putting in the YZ426F engine. Just update the current Banshee motor and put it into a new frame...

hmmm, 400cc 2-stroke with powervalves and modern porting....

Why would a Yamaha dealer say that the maintenance schedule would be awful if they put that motor in a quad? Would the maintenance be worse than a YZ? Same engine, same maintenance...am I missing something here? I like AlaskaTRX's idea better, or even keep the 350 and port it out some. And put some decent pipes on it from the factory.

The engines are not designed to push 400+ pounds of quad around. I Agree, just update the Banshee and it will remain the king of the hill.

HOW CAN'T THE YZ400 PULL A 400LB QUAD WHEN HONDA'S 400EX PULLS IT AND IT HAS HALF THE H.P.. ALL THATS REQUIRED IS CHANGING THE GEARS.
