I have been looking at warriors to buy but i don't know if the people selling the atv are giving me the right year. If they don't have a title how can i tell for sure what year warrior i am looking at. any help would be appreciated.

warrior4me,
Get the VIN# off the frame, I can't remember which side offhand, but right under the case cover. Contact your Yamaha dealer & he can give you the model year. You could also contact your MVD office & they should be able to give you that info. Some where along the line the quad had to be registered when bought by the original owner & that info should still be available.
Also, a Yamaha dealer might have a list of serial nos. for each year of production, which would save you trouble in checking other bikes. The real trick will be to talk the parts dept into researching all this. A little green in his hand couldn't hurt if the bike is really a good prospect.

I'm not positive about the Yamaha ATV's, (I never looked at my Grizzly) but on my YZ and on my Waverunners (all Yamahas) the last 2 numbers of the serial number are the year model. You might check the serial number and see if that seems reasonable.

Look at the VIN number. The 10th digit is the year.

H=87
J=88
K=89
L=90
M=91
N=92
P=93
R=94
S=95
T=96
V=97
W=98

well hey the alphabetic code may be correct on the blasters but mu manual states the following regarding warriors
year engine/chassis No
87 1UY-000101 ONWARDS
88 2XK-000101 ONWARDS
89 3GD-000101 ONWARDS
90 3GD-051101 ON
91 3GD-063101 ON
92 3GD-080101 ON
93 3GD-095101 ON
94 3GD-108101 ON
95 3GD-124101 ON.

SORRY DON'T HAVE LATER NUMBERS.

Other points to spot 87 to 92 have two rectangular lights mounted low between the fenders, 93 on have two circular lights mounted high in front of the bars.

warrior4me,
BC_YFS200 is right about the 10th digit. The same holds true for cars and motorcycles.The letter indicates the year just like he said.

CB400EX,99400EX, 10th digit is x for 99 model

87 and 88 warriors have the lights low, right above the front bumper. They should also have red or blue frames. They also have recoil backup starters. 89- 92 warriors have dual rectangular lights up higher, right below the handlebars. 93 and on have dual round headlights instead of rectangular ones ( but in same location).
