stator on banshee
#4
I recently had to find a '95 Banshee stator for a friend. A new stock one is around $400+ so I looked for a used stator. You have to make sure you get the right one. Even though the Banshee has remained relatively unchanged for a number of years, Yamaha felt the need to constantly change the number of wires and type of connectors comming out of the stator (go figure). I don't remember what other year stators will work on a '96 so you will have to first check with your dealer for compatibility. Next, check out the classifieds on this site. Don't be afraid to email everyone that is selling Banshee parts of the proper year. Many people don't list everything they have for sale. I ended up getting a used stator from someone on these classifieds for $130 including shipping and it worked great. I had to look around and send emails for a month or two before finding this item. You may need to be patient if you want to get a decent price. Otherwise, go to your dealer, hand him a five hundred dollar bill, and don't expect to see much change (only quicker service).
You can also have the stator fixed by a shop like Ricky Stator for much cheaper than new. Do you know what is wrong with the original one? I believe they rewind the ignition or lighting coil for approximately $75. If you need a pickup coil, you should be able to buy it separately from Yamaha (I got one for my 'Zuke) and you can install it yourself.
