I'm getting a banshee for my b-day i think. And i was wondering what would be the best thing to do to make it better in the trails. BTW it is a 97 or 98 i dont think that matters though

You're best bet would be to trade it in for a Honda 400EX! Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of 4 Wheel ATV Action (January 2000) and read the "Ultimate High Performance Shootout" article. Unfortunately, the Banshee did not fair so well. I ride with a few guys that have them, but without being set-up for the woods/trails they tend to suffer. Banshees are built for speed! Ride a 400EX before you buy. They are cheaper to buy and cheaper to hop-up and their 4-stroke motors are practically bulletproof. Ride On.

I do not want a 400ex. they cost to much. Theres no way you can get more hop-ups for a 4 stroke compared to a 2 stroke

Then just expect to be slower on the trails and woods areas. The 2 into 1 pipe and silencer kit gives more low end. The engine is to high-strung for tight areas.

Feara is right Banshees suck in the woods even w/ a 2 into 1 intake or exhaust.
The suspension is nothing to brag about either. The new Honda has everything you need, without bolt-ons or mods.
My father said " a mans got to know their limitations"..... that goes for quads too.
By the way I own a 00' Banshee.

If you have a Mojave and probably enjoy the reliability of a 4-stroke, then why would you want a 2-stroke for anything but pure speed. And as for cost, you need to check out the average retail of the two: Banshee is $5999 and the 400Ex is $5699. According to my math the 400EX is cheaper. If you can't figure that out, you'll never figure out the gas to oil ratio of a 2-stroke. With that extra $300, you could buy an aftermarket pipe (FMF, Stroker, White Bros, etc), a K&N filter, a couple of main jets, and maybe the rev. box. It still might not keep up with the top end of a Banshee, but it will surely smoke it in the woods and in the corners. You must be one helluva rider to go wide-open in the woods continuously. Not on Banshee stock tires! The Banshee is a great machine for what it is. But remember, it was first produced in 1987, and the only thing changed since then was a suspension/chassis modification in 1991 (almost a decade ago). If you have not ridden a 400EX, do so. And ride it like you stole it!
