NEED BLASTER HELP! PLEASE READ!
#1
I was riding my bike yesterday after one of my mechanic friends checked the oil level in my blaster and added a lil bit to top it off. after it got good and warm, it suddenly started sputtering and all this noise, this is when i notice it was blowing oil out of the motor on the front side, not out of the exhaust port but near it, almost like a head gasket..?? What could this be, the motor isnt seized and it still has great compression, i killed the engine as soon as i saw the oil, it had only been coming out for 2 or 3 seconds im sure. any ideas as to what kind of stuff im looking at here??? thanks!

I'm assuming your speaking of topping off the transmission oil in the crankcase and not the premix oil. You may have a transmission gasket leak up front. Touch the oil and see what color it is. It's probably the same color as the oil you put in (if its clean). You'll still have compression even with this type of leak. Your best bet is to clean up the oily mess with some carb cleaner or equivalent and then see exactly where the oil is leaking from. That's all I'm good for. Good luck!

Hey Razor, relax, this sounds exactly like what my kids blaster did shortly after we got it. Topped off the mix oil and went riding. Suddenly oil is coming out the front, above the headpipe. I flipped and took it to the dealer and they found no problem. It seems that the blaster does not like to have the injector oil resevoir overfilled. If you'll examine the resevoir for the fill line, hidden at the back. I'll bet you find it overfilled. I'think' that about 1-2" from the top of the tank is maximum to avoid this problem. If this is your prob, then go ahead and ride. This was my experience only. I hope that your problem is just as simple.Good luck.

I guess I was a little too vague, its not the premix oil... it is definitely tranny oil....... doesnt sound good? i havent gotten a chance to clean up the mess and see exactly where the oil leak is.... the tranny shifts through the gears and was not having any kind of problems at all, one notable thing was that i was starting to experience some clutch slippage the day i was riding, i was woods riding and was on the way home ( roughly 1/2 mile away from truck) when it started messing up... does anyone recommend the 240 kit? Im considereing going ahead with a full rebuild ( motor is 2 years old)

Well, your buddy just overfilled your tranny. The vent hose for the tranny is up under the hood. If it is too full oil will come out of the vent hose all over the front of the quad and motor. I would just drain the oil out and put back in 650ml that is all it takes. Nothing should be hurt. Next time dont let you buddy mess with your quad. Why did he think it needed more anyway? Once you fill it with 650ml there is no way of checking. The peep window on the side is always off so dont go by that. Nothing hurt just refill with proper amount and you should be fine.

thanks man, someone in my town had suggested that also but as u can imagine i was quite upset anyhow.... i asked my friend to go check the oil level on in the little peep hole and i guess he decided to "do me a favor" and top it off, i probably would have never added any oil to it.. Hopefully thats all that there is to it... thanks again!

I too have been inqiring about the 220-240 kit also. My local dealers mechanics who I know pretty well and trust said it is not a reliable modification. Obviously that's from what he has seen. He says they're always back in the shop. Now there may be other reputable kits that work, but we'll have to get other feedback. My only concern with this is will the tranny hold up to the 240 kit without adding undo stress to the gearing? The local mechanic recommended shaving 2mils off of the head to increase the compression slightly and just put a new top end in. That is the most reliable way and cheaper way to regain some power. I like riding it, not working or worrying about it.
