GOOD NEWS FOR 02 RAPTOR OWNERS!!!!
#1
I just got my new dirtwheels and they had a first test of the 02 Raptor. It said in there that yamaha had upgraded all the reliabilitly issues of the Raptor including putting bigger and stronger dogs on the gears in the trans wich is the problem why the 01's 2nd gear had been going. This is great news!

This is actually good for 01 owners also. It is there way of admitting the problem with the 01's. Now you guys that were talking about a class action lawsuit have evidence. Maybe if you can get enough people together you can get a recall out of them?

eman4000, whats on the cover of your newest dirtwheels. You probably have the November issue of Dirtwheels, and what Mtecate4g is talking about is in the December issue. Subscribers get their copy a few weeks before the stores do. If it happens that you have the december issue and, just missed it, it's on pages 152-158.

That's funny Gary!! Sad, but true. I'm seriously contemplating selling my Raptor for that very reason. It sucks that Yamaha won't just admit to the problem and recall the damn '01 Raptor's. Even if I sell my '01 I don't think I'll buy a '02. Yamaha has left a bad taste in my mouth after this experience.

You would think that Yamaha would look at the ford/firestone fiasco and realize it's just not worth it.
It's going to happen: Someone is going to be riding, second gear is going to jam sending them over the handlebars and a serious injury is going to happen, if someone doesn't get killed. The lawsuit is going to be HUGE, HUGE.
The 2002 gears cost $200 at dealer price, so you know yamaha is can make them for $75 or less. Add in 8 hours of labor per quad to switch them out BEFORE the trans blows up and people get hurt, less than $500 per quad. Now lets say you have 30,000 raptors out there. Thats a cool $15 million.
But remember this, Yamaha got nearly $5200 (or so I have heard) for each raptor they sold to a dealer, thats 156 million.
It's going to take a big lawsuit to make yamaha step up to the plate and do the right thing like they should.. but I truely believe it will happen. I just hope I'm not the one killed cause they have ****ed up gears.
Also, remember that the kid who was killed in a GMC truck because of bad gas tank placement... that was $101 million jury award. Yamaha, are you reading this?
A good place to start on this would be a heavy letter compain to Dirt Wheels. If we can get them to print and open letter to Yamaha saying that 2001 owners are scared of there trans blowing up, it would do wonders for our cause. I wonder how many people would send a letter in? Would you get everyone you know to do it?
