Man, am I GLAD I dumped my 01 for the nice shiny 2002 model I have sitting in my garage right now! It only cost me $300 extra for the upgrade...money well spent. The 2002's shift sweet, and the ratios are right on. I sincerely hope the rest of you don't incur any problems, but it was a real worry with me.

sheeesh people relax only about 3% of raptor owners have had this problem ...ride it ....most of the people that have had this problem arnt shifting it right to begin with ! its not that there is a tranny problem its that the tranny wont take abuse. the ratios are not very good I admit. but thats a model issue. yahmaha wont recall the quad. they will just fix them as they arive.and second the people that are having tranny trouble.that sucks but you need to do your home work ,gather info ,and take action .my honda 450ex case is apart right now getting a 6 speed tranny ,and guess what .there is severe were on the shift cam,and fork!! and this is a 2001 . it would have started failing soon! but its my own fault. who hasnt hit nutral racing ,and just kicked it in !!it happens !!

I didn't upgrade it...not worth the bother...I dumped it after about 35 hours of use in the year I owned it. I kept the bike in like new condition and just got a good price out of it on the sale to an individual. It only cost me $300 more for the 2002. (over and above the money I got out of the old bike) Cool huh? Glad I did it, because I like the newer model much better. Just to let you guys know...it can be done!

My guess is that they may have. I have found lots of little things that have been changed without admission by Yamaha. Wouldn't they be crazy NOT to after all the complaints on the 2001 model? By doing it on the sly, they don't have to deal with any admissions of guilt, thus getting everyone worked up. Example: they strengthened the gear dogs on the tranny along with changing the ratios...but did they go and admit that? I can't help but think they learned a lot of lessons at the expense of a lot of us first year owners. Customers unfortunately are the best R&D department the manufacturers have.
