DEER SEASON... WHO SCORED??
#1
Let's hear about some nice deer taken or at least some good lies. After sticking a doe the first week in bow season and not finding her, got a nice 5-point with my new PSE Thunderbolt lc, the next week. This was my first buck with a bow and it was a rush. Haven't used my quad to drag one out yet cause I had some buddies there to help. Gun season doesn't come in till 11/19 here and looking forward to that since I have the week off. Anyone seeing a lot of deer this year?

JHam,
I've been getting little 2x2s with my bow for the last few years and this year during a scouting trip, I saw a lot of bigger bucks. I decided not to shoot a little one this year.
So wouldn't you know it, on the second day of bow season, I was watching a little 2x2 fighting a bush in an open field. He came into the stand of aspen trees I was in, walked right under my tree (I'm in a portable stand), looked right up at me, and walked on. I could have shot him five different times. It was hard not too.
Short story is I missed a nice buck the last weekend, and didn't get one this year.
If you think shooting a buck with a bow is a rush, try shooting an elk! That's a rush.
Congrats on your deer. It's good to hear from other bow hunters.

I hit a nice 6-pointer the first week, hit it a little low (held my 30 yard pin, turns out it was just over 35 yards away), followed the blood trail for a few hundred yards then it disappeared. Maybe he'll walk in front of me again.

Someone tagged a yearling button-buck at my house. His horns haven't broken through the skin yet. It's really sad though.. We don't have alot of deer right around my house, but this last year the all the doe seemed to have twins. I called the game warden out, and he said that someone either shot it square in the butt with a bow, or killed it with a gun. It's hard to believe that anyone would shoot an animal that small. My rottweiler is bigger.

I bet hunting in Utah is sweet. A few friends and I are planning an out west hunt in a few years. My mother is from Montana and I wanted to go there but that's too far so we're thinking of something a little closer drive. I guess we'll use a guide service since unfamiliar with territory but no canned hunts or fences, we like real hunting. I hit my buck a little high cause he was at a brisk walk when I shot. It must have glanced off a bone cause it sliced his heart and he dropped after only 15 yards. That's the first one I didn't have to search for. I went back and found my arrow this weekend too, still in good shape only bloody.
I know what you mean about poachers. There would be a lot of deer around my house if it wasn't for so many "Poach and Youngs"lol!
