DEER SEASON... WHO SCORED??
#11
My cleanest kill was shooting a buck that was at a brisk walk. I was in a tree near the trail and hit him through the top of his back, right through the heart, and out of his chest. He didn't even run. He dropped immediately, tried to stand up, and was down for good. At first I couldn't believe it. But it was nice to not have to trail one. I use a pendulum bow site. I wouldn't hunt without it.
I hit a spike bull elk one year that was quartered away from me at 30 yds; a slightly uphill shot. He was bedded about 40 yds from a spring I was hunting. At about 7:30 p.m. he got up (they're real noisy) and walked down to drink. The arrow went into one lung. To give you an idea of their strengh and size, when the arrow first penetrated, he only ran 15 yds, stopped and turned around to look at the arrow, then walked back to where he had bedded down. He stood there for a few minutes breathing hard, then collapsed. Now THAT was lucky. Elk aren't like deer, they'll run for 5 miles before they stop. I was hunting by myself so I cleaned him and went back in the morning to drag him out. I had to cut him in half. It took me five hours to get both pieces 1 mile, all downhill, to the road. The butcher weighed him in at 345 pounds. And that's only a small spike! But they sure are good eating.
All you guys that got big deer this year are making me jealous.

Those are some nice looking buck and elk pics. I hope one day to take a wallhanger like those. I just like to get out and enjoy nature and at least see some wildlife but it's nice when you get rewarded once in a while.
I've considered a pendulum site but am pretty used to the pin sites now. I have the tru-glows and it really helped on this buck cause it was almost dark.
